Session 25 (200 xp)

"Survival is no birthright, but a prize wrested from an uncaring galaxy by forgotten heroes."

Acolytes: Monroe, Aenid, Meghera, Mongrel, Dar.

The Acolytes report to Inquisitor Marr, who congratulates them for a job well done, and offers them an opportunity to join his own inquisitorial team. The Acolytes decline for the moment, and spend a few days resting while their transport to Scintilla is being arranged.

Meghera meets again a mysterious member of the Serrated Query, who explains to her the powers of the Halo Device, also informing her that returning to the Inquisition with the device will mean certain death. He offers her to join the Serrated Query, but she asks for more time to decide.

The Acolytes depart for Scintilla... but something terrible is about to befall them.

* * *

The Acolytes awaken in a deep pit, surrounded by other captives, all their possessions stripped from them. Aenid and Mongrel feel a psychic block, making it impossible to harness the power of the Warp. Looking up, they notice a man with an Heron Mask looking down at them.

While they get their bearings, a grate opens up on the side of the pit, and a pack of spindle-maws rushes in the pit, slaughtering Mongrel and other captives. After a short but intense fight, a ladder is dropped from above, and the Acolytes escape the pit. Above, a slaver lies dead, and near him the Acolytes find a note from a mysterious ally, who apparently helped them out. A finely crafter dagger lies near the body.

The Acolytes find themselves in a huge compound, some sort of meat-grinding house, where several cages hold the most different beasts.

The Acolytes move out to find an escape route, but all they find is savage beasts, and slaughtered bodies. Eventually, they reach some sort of shrine where a chaos idol is kept. Unknown to them, an unclean spirit hides in the idol. The spirit takes possession of Dar's body, and forces the guardsman to kill himself. The Acolytes escape the room, and continue their exploration.
