In Stern Hope they meet Abbot Skae, the holy man in charge of the Cathedral, and his most trusted clerics, Brother Lamark and Brother Severus.
The Acolytes begin asking questions around town, hearing of the weird lights and ululating sounds coming from the nearby hills. When they go to investigate, they are attacked by an Hexalid. After killing the creature, they notice it was already severely wounded, and its eye were pecked out.
Back in Stern Hope to rest, they awake to a great commotion, as Chief Kos'ke is entering town with his warriors and the wise-woman Esha Raine, cheered by the local Ashleen. Not long after, the morning rituals for the consecration of the Cathedral begin, but are interrupted by the arrival of fanatical attackers who are setting Stern Hope on fire.
The Acolytes confront the invaders, but then Mongrel uses his psychic powers to assume a demonic visage, in order to strike fear in all who lay eyes on him, and chaos ensues! The warp unleashes poweful winds, throwing the scared congregation off their feet.
Lamark and Severus move to stop Mongrel, which leads to the first beign wounded, and the other killed. As the Acolytes stop the first wave of invaders, the faithful in the Cathedral recover from Mongrel's assault, and encircle the Acolytes.
