The Acolytes talk their way out of a mob lynching, and roam the streets of Stern Hope to repel the Fanatics. They eliminate their leader, and the few remaining madmen escape.
The attackers were actually Voicers, follower of the Warlord Seth, who believes the Cathedral is cursed and should never have been built. Esha Raine, appalled by the events, leaves Stern Hope.
The Abbot will not be stopped by the attack, and retires to the Cathedral to prepare for the evening rites. In the late afternoon, he staggers out, terribly wounded, and blames Esha for the attack on his person.
The Acolytes are sent to arrest Esha, but when they meet her in her desert stead, they're attacked by Shale Crows. After defeating them, Esha reveals to them that the Cathedral has apparently been built on the site where St Drusus defeated a powerful Daemon, the Dancer at the Threshold.
The Acolytes return to Stern Hope, and find the outpost in the clutches of fear. As they approach the Cathedral, a dark ritual, led by Aristarchus, in ongoing. Abbot Skae is possessed by the Daemon, and becomes a mutated mass of flesh and muscles.
After a bloody fight, the Acolytes destroy the possessed form of Skae, and the Cathedral's dome explodes with warp energies, disintegrating Aristarchus.
The Dancer at the Threshold has been defeated... for now.
