After three days with no food nor water, the Acolytes are finally rescued by a passing Rogue Trader. They're delivered to Scintilla, where they present the Luminous Reproach and the Liber Demonicae to the Inquisition.

The Acolytes are brought to the Bastion Serpentis, on one of the moons orbiting Scintilla. Their mission will be to travel to the mining planet of Sepheris Secundus, to investigate a terrorist group called the Broken Chains. The group was founded by Baron Havalir Saerton Ulbrexis, a former noble of the planet with very progressive/radical ideas. He advocated fair rights for serfs, and tolerated the existance of mutants. For his ideals, he was removed from rulership, and allegedly executed, though in reality he spent the last decade in a cell below the Bastion Serpentis.
The Acolytes need to convince the Baron to help them in their investigation, since he knows the planet like no others, and also because the current leader of the Broken Chains, Assod Morirr, was once of the most trusted lieutenants of the Baron. But Assod was an extremist, and a violent man, and the Baron was forced to eliminate him. Alas, it seems that Assod is still alive, and leading the Broken Chains.
The Acolytes obtain the help of the Baron, and together with him they embark on the Pax Behemot, a Rogue Trader that will bring them to Sepheris Secundus. During the three months of travel in the warp, they get to know the Baron better, and share many evenings at the table of Captain Kobal Aizdar.
Eventually they reach Sepheris Secundus, and are welcomed by Proctor Noles Rotlan, leader of the local Arbites, that will assist them in their investigation.
