The Acolytes leave Sepheris Secundus, taking passage on a Rogue Trader bound to Scintilla. On the ship, Meghera meets a charming stranger, who talks to her about the lies of the God-Emperor, and of a way to free herself from the chains of doctrine. She does not indulge the stranger, but allows him to leave her presence after a short conversation. The only trace the man was ever there is a small sickle-shaped token, the symbol of the Serrated Query.
Back on Scintilla, the Acolytes are de-briefed, and Meghera is forced to a week of physical and spiritual indoctrination, for having missed the chance to capture a living member of the Serrated Query.

The Acolytes are sent to the planet Solomon, as a "loan" to another Inquisitor, Silas Marr. The old, wizened Inquisitor assigns them a peculiar mission: they are to participate to an "auction" of the treasures of the late rogue trader Erasmus Haarlock. The auction wil take place in the House of Dust and Ash, a crematorium where Haarlock has received the Last Rites. The Acolyte must make sure that the most dangerous items of the Haarlock collection do not fall into the end of heretics, or worse, and aquire those items that can be of importance to the Inquisition.
To reach their destination, they embark on the Cygnar Martyr, a sky-ship chartered for the guests of the auction. On board, they have a chance to meet the other guests, and begin their investigation.
